In
Honor Of...
Lyla Murphy

The Carrie's Care
Family would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of
Lyla Murphy.
We are
grateful to have had Lyla and her daughter, Bobbie (a welcome dinner
guest on occasion) as a part of our Carrie's Care family.
As
evidenced by her reaction to the frequent phone calls from Brad and most
recent visits from Marnie and her beautiful daughter, Sarene, it was
obvious just how deeply Lyla loved her family.
When Lyla was up to
it, she managed to turn some of us into professional wrestling fans, while sharing some of
her favorite movies & cooking expertise with others.
Those close to Carrie's Care know
very well, that Miss Lyla presented the team of caregivers, professional
staff, residents and family with some challenges. In those instances,
although we all didn't get it right away, she gave us all reason to
pause and examine the real meaning of THRIVE. It is in that spirit
that we have thanked her for helping us, even at the end of her life's
journey—to learn a valuable lesson.
Lyla's choices did not always
make sense to us--hence the frustration at times. That's the beauty of
it all, they were HER choices and not for us to understand or agree
with, but to accept them as just that. And while she seldom protested
verbally, it became very clear during the last few days of her life,
that she was determined to "have it her way."
How self-focused we (who would be
left behind) can be sometimes... we wanted her hang around a bit longer
than she was prepared to. In the end, in true Lyla form, she seemed to
forgive us for being so damned annoying, still smiling at us (sometimes)
as we intruded to ask her to eat or to take her blood sugar or to join
us in the dining room... when all along SHE knew what she was preparing
for. Duh...
Rest well, Lyla. Thank you for
sharing your life with us—and in the end, for what you taught us about
living, through your dying.
We are better for having known
you. We thrive.
To Bobbie, Brad & Marnie and family—
We trust that you are comforted in
the knowledge that you did your very best to take care of your mom...
and that she knew it.
Remember that you will always be a
part of the Carrie's Care family and there will always be a place for
you at our table.
